Stretch film

Advantages of use

Development of stretch film

The packaging industry is characterized by its continuous development, introduction of innovative solutions, and increasing of production efficiency. The requirements for the quality of modern packaging are also constantly expanding, protection of the goods from environmental influences, mechanical damages, tightness, simplicity and ease of use. Today, stretch film is a material that meets all the requirements, which is distinguished by its multifunctionality and efficiency.

The prototype of modern stretch film was developed in the 70s of the twentieth century, and since that moment, this material has found application in all spheres of human activity. Stretch film is a universal packaging material that is characterized by its unique ability to stretch and return to its original state without damage. Stretch film provides a strong fixation of the cargo, which is why it is widely used for packing various goods and cargoes during transportation, storage, loading and unloading operations, ensuring their integrity and safety.

Today, the market consumption capacity of the CIS countries is more than 100 thousand tons of stretch film per year, at the same time this figure is characterized by constant growth. Thousands of companies, both small firms and large manufacturers, have appreciated the advantages of this packaging material and constantly use it in their activities.

Application of stretch film

Stretch films are one of the types of polymer films that are made of high-density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, linear low-density polyethylene. Stretch film is a strong, elastic material that is characterized by its ability to withstand high loads and has selective adhesive properties. During the packaging process, the film layers are well bonded to each other, and do not stick to the goods being packed. In addition, the film layers are easily separated without damaging the integrity of the film itself and the contents in the package.

Stretch film is a universal film packaging material that can be used in a variety of situations: in the case of disposable food packaging, for fastening objects with sharp angles and the right shape, when moving and during shipping. Stretch film is indispensable in logistics and warehouse activities, and is also widely used in many industries:

− food industry;

− furniture production;

− trade;

− packing and fixing of cargo (securing cargo on pallets, pallets by means of rotary wrapping);

− in different industries (for individual and group packaging of goods);

− operation of warehouse terminals;

− activities of transport companies;

− at home.

Types of stretch film

According to their functional purpose, the stretch film can be distinguished between:

− food stretch film

Food stretch film is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the main application of which is the packaging of food. The food type of stretch film differs among others in the ability to "breathe", passing oxygen into the package, thereby ensuring freshness and long-term storage of products.

− technical stretch film

Technical (pallet) stretch film is thicker and more durable; it is used in many areas of industry for packing and fixing goods on pallets and cargo pallets, serves as an auxiliary mean of ensuring the safety of products.

By the method of production

− film obtained by blow-molding (tubular) extrusion

This type of film has a significant strength and elasticity, the ability to stretch up to 300% of the original length. Used for packaging of various products, where the greatest application was found in agriculture.

− film obtained by the method of flat-slit extrusion

This type of film is made in the form of a polymer cloth, which can consist of 3 to 7 layers, and then is wound onto cylindrical rolls. The film layers have a clear sequence: they are arranged in order from the cylinder sleeve to the outer surface.

Depending on the thickness we can distinguish following types of the film:

− cling films

Stretching films with a thickness of 5 to 11 microns, which are used for individual food packaging.

− industrial film

The thickness of this type of film is 13-30 microns. They are used in the activities of industrial enterprises, in agriculture for the packing of various groups of goods, and for the transportation/shipment of bulky products.

The company "Evroeskort" provides an assortment of stretch films with various thicknesses and widths at the most optimal prices. Our managers will gladly answer all questions you can possibly have in order to choose the most appropriate type of the film.
